Over 60 Iraqis were butchered today. This horrible attack is the latest in a series of massacres committed by, you guessed it: the insurgents in Iraq. After reading this, the first thought that came to mind was how will Jordanians react to this now.
It is no secret that a number of Jordanians cheered the evil doings of the insurgents, seeing it as a form of "legitimate resistance." Now that Jordan has been hit by what seems to be Iraqi insurgents from Falluja, will Jordanians — including the Jordanian media — publicly denounce the doings of the "resistance" and support ongoing efforts to stabilize Iraq.
Will the Jordanian public and media now support the democratic steps taking place in Iraq, including elections? Do Jordanians realize now that stability in Iraq means stability at home? Let’s wait and see.
Most people don’t refuse the Americans. And even less so other members of the coalition. This is a fiction created by polls which are collected in, “Gasp!”, places that tend to still be unstable and hold a high level of insurgent activity. The reality is that more an more they are ‘for’ the US being there, though one major place you get the opposite reaction is Baghdad, which is really quite ironic, given that other than the green zone, 99% of the security there is now Iraqi. Yes, its very complicated. The people that should be finding the truth of what is going on in there are too afraid of the insurgents to leave Baghdad to find it out, the few that have the courage are not working for major press agencies, and the few that are and do tend to be groups like Al Jezerra and others that are either not interesting in telling the whole truth or actively promoting the propaganda of the terrorists.
How much Bush lied has jack shit to do with the consequence of failure in Iraq. But the US public that equates Iraq in its entirety with Bush continue to prove themselves 1,000 times stupider that they raving lunitic running the terrorists in Iraq. They still can’t see that every time they call for withdrawal, the terrorists take advantage of it to make it look like some act of civil war happened, and all is lost, which makes some other idiot say we need to withdraw, rinse and repeat. Both groups are feeding off each other, but its Zarqawi that is pulling the strings. And the only thing more dangerous and insane than an animal backed into a corner is one that started out rabid ‘before’ you backed it into a corner.
And the ‘lies’ are exagerated. They are predicated on the assumption that no WMD existed and Bush knew that. In reality, its more subtle than that and had any been found, no one would be trying to blow it out of proportion. The irony is, I just read an article yesterday about 1) a map to WMD sites made in 2003, just before Iraq was to be invaded, 2) detailed plans on what they where going to do to improve and continue developing them after the heat was off, and 3) evidence of Saddam sending money and correspondence to Al Queda. If this becomes confirmed…. It casts a completely different light on things. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/11/16/122915.shtml
Unfortunately it might also save Bush’s ass, and I have a lot of gripes about his domestic policies, refusal to listen to advisors and idiot decisions anyway to be pissed off about, even if it might be proved he didn’t lie as much as everyone insists he did.
The situation in Iraq is so complicated, simply nobody knows anything. Most people hated Saddam’s times but most of them hate the life they’re living now. Most people refuse the maeircan occupation but most are against such attacks killing Iraqi people. It’s a disatser when you’re too weak still have to fight 2 enemies.
Even if america is doing the right thing in Iraq people in Jordan and many people in Iraq will not like it, because the american government has lied so many times to them just like it lied to its own people. If you found a muderer helping young children won’t you suspect there’s a reason he’s doin so?
