According to Al-Arabiyeh’s website, a 40-year-old Jordanian guy divorced his wife after one week of marriage over a fight involving Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram.
The site quoted the Saudi paper Al-Riyadh, saying the man was watching TV with his wife when a video clip of Nancy Ajram appeared on TV. The man started comparing his wife with Ajram, something that angered the wife and caused a fight between the newlyweds. The fight ended with a divorce.
I don’t know where this Saudi paper got this news item from but it is certainly disturbing. It is disheartening to hear that marriage can be taken that lightly. It is also sad that in many cases in the Middle East, ending the matrimonial bond is in the hands of the man.
Well, Nancy AJram can sing/ haifas prettier though. But even Americans are not like Arabs. Sure they go crazy over singers but there is no sexual harassment like what happened to her in Morocco. She can sing, but at the same time, shes not perfect.A nd wheres the religion? she won’t be singing after she dies. Her body that people consider “sexy’ will be burned with ashes of fire. Same with all of them.
who ever wrote this story first they should think about how to write a story, rather than writeing some foolish stuff,my friends nancy ajram is a big arabic star dont compare her with your wifes and girl friends or else you all will be divorced.
tomorrow some one else will compare their husbands to arnold scharwenezeger and i am sure they will be divorced too. come on be practical. from love machine

What Amin is saying is probabaly true, it’s only this incident that lead to this, however i find it interesting to know that this asshole divorced his wife for a reproedly stupid reason (they’ve been married for only a week) without her consent and now she’s labelled as “motalaqqah” which has a terrible social impact.
The story doesn’t sound too rediculous. Most of the time big fights are ignited by something really silly. The fight was due to happen. The incident is merely a trigger and an excuse to release what’s been brewing below beforehand. There was a story last week about a guy who shot his sister in the head over a bag of ice. A couple of years ago I heard one about a guy who shot and killed his brother over a pair of sox. The reporters always fail to mention the series of other incidents building up the angre or frustration leading up to the climactic moment.
keif law inha Haifa? kan il dam sar la rokab!
I cant read the story because i cant read arabic, but i think this is a made up story to stop people from watching Ajram and other singers like her because there is this out rage coming out from the extremists side. They do not like to see their arab women dressed and acting like Ajram and these singers do these days.
But screw them! Nancy you keep singing and dancing your butt off!
As for marriage, its a social construction that has been refered to as a self made prison. Still knowing that, I still want to get married in the future so poo on all you who dont like the institution of marriage 😛
What I have always found disturbing is how few people who take marraige seriously take finding the right person to be married to so casually. But then, in most cultures marraige has never been about love, just politics, economics or other similar things. Those that believe in these false reasons for developing relationships invariably become incised when people realize that *hunctional* marraiges need to be about trust and understanding, *not* some mystical promise to stick with it even if they fight, beat up each other or otherwise psychologically damage any children who have the misfortune of being born into such an environment of distrust, anger and artificial stability.
Personally, I commend these two for figuring out they couldn’t function in the relationship and condemn those who will likely now punish both for being honest with themselves and each other. But tradition of course demands the opposite all too often.
