Yahoo News chose this AFP picture to go along with the Jordanian romance story. Is this a fair representation of Jordanian women? I think not. And you wonder how stereotypes are created! Hat tip: [Scooby] |

The skeptics Bible and Quran Arash? Nice, very nice 😉 you secularist you.
Okay i want to make something very clear. Reading other religious texts does not totaly mean you are reading them for some form of spiritual guidance, at least with what i want to do. when i read the bible, its for spiritual guidance and religious reasons.
but the only way for there to be tolerance in this world filled with violence and hate is to understand other religions and cultures and have tolerance for them and an open mind 🙂
Wendy,
I kind of both agree, and disagree here with the thought you are presenting. Reading both books in order to be aware of what each says is good. But following both is impossible. No man ( or woman) can serve or please two masters. While both books have things in common, they both also differ in many ways. I wonder if you can tell the non- Christians too the same thing, to read the Bible.
Jareer, I think it is important to read both, Bible and Koran. And Linda, to read the Bible in Arabic will REALLY help you understand it in a fresh way, I join the chorus to encourage you learn to read classical Arabic.
One thing I like about the Bible is it’s injunction to men to be responsible for their thoughts about women as well as women to be careful to let their beauty be displayed in their character not just their clothing style.
I think women in both cultures and both religions need a wake-up call on the tight clothes issue, however.
Religious discussion, Malhas shall try to stay away other than to say that certain dress codes that are forced upon a gender (when I say forced, it doesn’t have to be by the government) contribute to the subjugation of that gender and contribute to the long term stagnation in free thought and free will by putting the aforementioned gender in a subservient obedient context.
In a nutshell, I don’t like it, but judging it on the aesthetic level makes me cursory, while judging it on the anthropological level can go a long way in explaining the myriad of problems we face in the Arab world.
Linda, here’s a good English Quran (and a good English Bible depending on whom you ask).
Jareer, i dont even know you and i like you , hahaha.
In this particular case I felt you were too harsh on poor Linda;-)) Come on Jareer, I like you, although I don’t always agree with you. This is what makes our debates engaging, don’t you think?
Ok Linda
Do both. I did not say I am against. Natasha, why do you have to agree or disagree? We are not fighting or debating. You seem to like to side against me, anyways, always. hahaha
Jareer,
I have to agree with Linda here. There is nothing wrong with keeping an open mind by exploring different ideologies and thoughts.
