Reading list

I have not been blogging in while as there is not much going on besides work. I am working the B shift this month from 3 pm until 11:30pm (upon my request), as the morning shifts are filled with lots of negative energy.

The best thing about living in Doha, though, is that I have time to read. I am currently reading the biography of Queen Noor: Leap of Faith and I m really enjoying it! It has interesting accounts on the personal life of the late King Hussein and Queen Noor.

Next on the list is Memoirs of Geisha followed by Richard’s Clarke’s “Against all Enemies” (if my friend Amal manages to get it for me from Lebanon).

The weekend was really relaxing with a highlight dinner at a Mexican restaurant, called Salsa, at the Marriot Hotel.

Chat the Planet

While flipping through the TV channels last night I was surprised to see a show I worked on last year being aired on MBC’s “2.”

The show, called Chat the Planet, is a live discussion between Jordanian and American youths on the issue of war. I never got to see if after working on it so I was really happy to finally see it, although I missed half.

The cool thing was that I was given a credit at the end of the show: Researcher: Natasha Twal.

Back to Doha

So I am back from Tunisia. The trip was really rewarding even though the summit itself was postponed. It was an excellent experience, as I made lots of contacts and filed a number of stories.

Although I didn’t see much of Tunisia what I saw was impressive. Tunis — the capital — looks really European with French-style homes and street cafes. I stayed at a Hotel Africa, which is located in the heart of Tunis on Habib Bourguiba Street.

On the day of my departure I walked all the way downtown — Le Medina — where I shopped at an arts and crafts souk, or market. I got some souvenirs and a couple of Tunisian items including a mosaic painting, which is now proudly hanging on one of our flat walls.

After I got back to Doha, I took a couple of days off to recuperate from the hectic work schedule in Tunisia.

Jeff and I had a really a fun day yesterday as we went to the Palm Island here in Doha. We arrived there by boat, which we took from the dock near the Sheraton hotel.

The island itself is quiet and small but very pleasant with lots of palms. We had a nice dinner at the Island’s sole resturnat and even drank beer, something that is only served in hotels here. Perhaps the island not being on the Qatar mainland was exempt. Who knows, but it was quite a treat!

A better day

Ok, it seems like this day is better than tomorrow. As soon as I got to the office at 7:00 am I heard the news of the assassination of Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmad Yassin. This kept me busy all during the day.

On the Tunisia front, things seem to be working out. I am booked for this Friday 26 March, scheduled to return by the 31st. I will go via Dubai so it will be interesting to get a chance to check out Dubai’s airport, as it is rated “best in the world.”

Also, I got the equipment for the trip: A dell laptop computer and a Sony digital camera.

On the health front, though, I am still suffering. The coughs don’t seem to want to stop and the general fatigue is still there. I Hope to get better before the big trip!
