Egyptian blogger Big Pharaoh is asking a question that has been haunting me for the past couple of days. He wonders:
"A question to my fellow Muslims and Arabs: isn’t this picture more of an insult to Islam than the silly J-Posten cartoons? And don’t you think it can easily be an inspiration for similar future cartoons? Just 2 innocent questions here."
With all due respect, I have to agree with Big Pharaoh here. While I still regard the cartoons as offensive — exhibiting a terrible stereotype of millions of Muslims out there — some of the reactions to the cartoons, including, let’s see — the storming and torching of embassies, throwing grenades onto the grounds of a French embassy and harassing European nationals, and more — have caused more harm to the image of Muslims and Arabs than the actual publication of the caricatures did. Anyway, like fellow Jordanian blogger Naseem, I’m ‘sick of the word cartoon.’ Let’s hope this is the last post I write about this particular topic.
I wonder maybe we should consider our reactions when they burn our Flag, behead our citizens,
hang our soliders from bridges, kill thousands of our people. I ask you all this for a cartoon, how should we react to the above. Bye the way I don’t agree with the cartoon
A further bit of reporting on the Iranian protest:
لا الاه الا الله محمد رسول الله
Well muslims are proving that they are all terrorists! But with Beelzebubs help, this wont look like any kind of problem. It will be viewed as an expression of freedom or some kind of crap and will be forgiven. Doesnt the muslim creed say to those who dont believe ” convert or die?” So this cartoon shows nothing new of muslims. Its only typical.
Was just using them as an example (albeit possibly a bad one). Since this is a projection to 300 years into the future though, if Iran survives close to what it is that long, how sure are you that by then it wouldn’t be true? Saudi Arabia might have been a far better example maybe? Point is that there is this, “revenge over stuff that happened centuries ago”, disease in the ME. People in Iraq commented on it when talking about sunni vs. shia conflict and they have commented on it in other places as well. Even Iran’s anti-Israel ranting is the *same* sort of, “We don’t want to find a peaceful solution, *those* people don’t deserve it for all the real an imaginary stuff they have done to use!”, BS. Its not hard at all to imagine 300 years from now some group with this insane sort of thinking to bring up 300 year old cartoons as an excuse to kill people.
That’s just to keep the appearance, Jeff. Iran aspires to lead the Islamic world after all. The sense of outrage is absent around the Iranian circles. Even this decree came after every other Muslim country had reacted, and, mark my words, will never be carried out. They ordered the same thing after S Korea voted against Iran over the nuclear issue, and recently officially backed down. There is no popular embargo of Danish products in Iran. There is virtually no popular sense of urgency to react, with the long overdue demonstrations held just this Friday after the state-orchestrated Friday Prayers. Ofcourse Iranians don’t get neurotic news networks like Aljazeera, so that might also be a factor. These cartoons got near zero coverage in state owned networks.
And do all Americans wear cowboy hats? Are they all strippers and drunks?
No.
Well, not all Muslims wear turbans. It’s a social ethnic issue. Keep your ethnocentric racism coming.
Whoopsie. Dunno why said link didn’t show:
Again: Karnival of the Koran Krapping
I think this is hardly civilized.
My concept? Where did I even talk about Sharia law? Anybody care to jump in? Am talking about racism. The kind that is in evident in your comment – as in grouping everyone who has an opinion which differs from yours into one stereotype. Thanks for proving my point.
My sharia law? hahaha…good god. Here you go, put your white hood on when you take a look at the pictures, aight?

firas … personally I have not seen that or know of any credible cases of this happening. I also don’t think that would be acceptable. After saying that I also don’t find it acceptable to kill a person that lives in a country that does not rule by shari’a law even if they had. Your concept of shari’a law being portable where ever are muslim hangs his turbin will not fly.
You can say anything in this world you want and I won’t kill you for speaking your mind … Civilization 101!
