Three days ago I had my first job interview in the land of milk and honey and I believe it went pretty well. The interview took place in Washington, DC — the city we plan to settle down in eventually. In order to get there on time we woke up early to give me some extra time to explore the city and see some of DC’s famous monuments before my interview.
Right before leaving the homestead, I got a chance to watch the NBC Today show, where Queen Rania was being interviewed that day by Katie Couric. The queen looked extremely beautiful, as usual, and spoke very eloquently about Jordan’s efforts to empower women in the country. I saw it as a good omen for the beginning of my day.
Regarding DC, the city itself: I loved it, especially Georgetown. It just looks very European and extremely trendy. I think I will like it even more once we finally settle down there.
Back to the issue of landing a job, I have been unemployed for over a month now and I think it started getting to me. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed every month of our last four weeks of constant travel. But the workaholic inside me is itching to get out. Looking for jobs is the part that I hate the most. It is a tedious process of distributing as many CVs as you can and then waiting for your fate to unfold.
I have done this so many times in my lifetime that the idea of doing it yet again gives me a headache. Ah, if only job opportunities would come knocking at your door. I’m very open to suggestions and recommendations from anyone who has contacts in DC/Metro area in the media field. Any job-related tips would be highly appreciated.
Good luck folks. Every begining is not easy; but you are on the right track; “Seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you”. Maybe one day I will share my first experience for work in the US, and how that step changed my entire life.
Natasha, are u gonna settle in AMMAN or USA!
sorry just got a bit confused..
best of luck and yeah u look great in the pictures 🙂
Natasha,
Good luck on that job hunt, we know how frustrating that search can be sometimes. You may have already looked here but we have loads of success with Craigslist out here in Seattle. It is very esoteric but a lot of employers “leak” their jobs to Craigslist before posting it to the larger job sites like Monster and others. It is nice that is regional too, and when I looked at it last, Washington DC’s Craigslist was actively used with a number of neat sounding jobs available. We do hope you and Jeff find something enjoyable to segue into, that would be such a nice way to begin your new experience here in the States.
Good luck and good hunting!
David n’ Diane
Good luck Natasha…Show them what’s Jordan all about.
I was thinking, Al-Hurra TV are in Washington, DC and they look for Arabic-English speaking staff. Though your English is way better than most of their staff (Just go there and u’ll know what I’m talking about). Well frankly I still can’t tell if they are biasd or objective.
I wish you best of luck, and I know you’ll win big, u got great narrative skills and a pretty face….
Good luck min kul Albe!
I hope you will introduce yourself as of a Jordanian background, not Ayrab!
Take care,
-Not an Ayrab
