A Jordanian gunman on Monday shot at a group of foreign tourists visiting the Roman Amphitheater in Jordan’s capital, killing a British man and wounding six other people including a Jordanian police officer, Interior Minister Eid al-Fayez said.
Police overtook the gunman at the scene and arrested him, said government spokesman Nasser Judeh. Al-Fayez said the casualties included the British man who died, plus two other wounded Britons and the Jordanian police officer. In addition, one Dutch, one Australian and one New Zealander tourist were all wounded. Source: [Associated Press]
It really is disheartening to see this happen in Jordan. In addition to the brutal killing of an innocent tourist and the injuring of others — including one Jordanin police officer — this cold-blooded murderer has most certainly dealt the Jordanian tourism industry a harsh blow.
My most sincere condolences go out to the family of the British tourist. Regardless of this brutal incident, I wholeheartedly believe that Jordan will remain one of the safest places in the region.
Thia troubles me, mainly because I sense there have been more of these kinds of attacks in the region during the past few months. If they start getting major coverage like mass casualty attacks do, then the region’s tourist economy will collapse, and more people will turn to them, killing more people.
“dm and dmr…”
Thank you for demonstrating the reason why I didn’t want to ask in the first place.
Either way, for whatever reasons, what happened is really sad and I just hope that someday people will not resort to violence when expressing their anger and frustration.
dm and dmr. Read link below. who do you think is getting tortured and why? did we already forget the recent accusation that hamas is trying to commit terror attacks in jordan? for what purpose were those chanrges made and for whoes benefit?

Skye,
That was going to be my question but I was kind of afraid to ask for fear of getting flamed.
” hence your lack of concern for the consequences of the jordanian govenment doing america’s and israel’s dirty work”
DD678, How is the Jordanian government doing America’s and Israel’s dirty work?
Wait a minute. I’m not going to disagree with you, because I agree that in the grand sceme of things, foreign policies of this manner do cause problems. All I’m saying is that to say that this crime is a direct result from it and that it wouldn’t have happened had Jordan not done America’s and Israel’s “dirty work”is where I respectfully disagree. Things like this happen for many different reasons. Yes, one of those reasons is backlash and anger about Jordan’s foreign policies, but it isn’t the only reason.
LB677 you say that this is “a criminal gunning down innocent tourists?”
I though he was crazy? now he is just criminal? in a day or two he will be an islamic fundemntalist. after that, an alqaeda operative.
YOu would rather shove your head in the sand than accept that Jordan’s foreign policy is becoming a lighting rod for violent reprisals and revenge attacks which in the end harm average jordanians.
but you seem like one of those guys who have armed guards and machine guns protecting their home, hence your lack of concern for the consequences of the jordanian govenment doing america’s and israel’s dirty work.
What in the hell does Jordan’s getting involved with Israel and America have to do with a criminal gunning down innocent tourists? That’s insane and I have no idea how you can connect the two. You honestly think that this wouldn’t have happened if Jordan was a democracy? Guess what, crimes happen in countries that are a democracy too. That’s ridiculous!
That’s the price we jordanians have to pay for our government’s inability to keep its nose clean and to stay out of other people’s affairs. trouble started in jordan when we started doing america and israel’s dirty business. if only jordan was a democracy, none of this would have happened. we would have put a stop to it.

This is bad.
Thank God we are approaching the end of the summer or else we would have lost a lot of tourists.
