Right after watching the out-of-this world World Cup match between Italy and Germany, we jumped on the Metro and made our way down to the National Mall to celebrate Independence Day along with hundreds of thousands (estimates of 400,000) of people that flocked to the nation’s capital.
As expected, this once-a-year mammoth event was extremely enjoyable. Festivities were in full swing all over the mall. There were musical concerts, shows and even a Hare Krishna performance. We also managed to get a glimpse of Vanessa Williams, Jason Alexander — who played George on Seinfeld — and Elmo (the infamous Sesame Street puppet) after walking down to the Capitol building where the country’s main 4th of July concert took place.
Watching fireworks from the base of the Washington Monument made for a memorable sight. The cornucopia of colors coupled with the impact of the forceful explosions was simply breathtaking. Happy 4th of July everyone!
I’m always confused by this type of misdirection in the comments on this blog. Often it’s direction towards all things Palestine. Nothing wrong with discussing Palestine, but this blog’s specialty is Jordan and its author is content to blog about what she knows best. I’ve never understood why there are some, who most often prefer to work “anonymously,” that want her to discuss something completely unrelated to her post, as is the case here. Were this my blog, I’d delete any comments that were unrelated to the post and I’d say to those that insist upon making statements on my space that they should get their own platform for that kind of thing. I think this blog provides a great deal of information about Jordan, life there and the views of many Jordanians, including this author, who choose to weigh in on things. But it also provides information of a sometimes very engaging personal nature. I’m not sure why it seems to bring out those that want a platform to talk about something completely unrelated. Perhaps they are jealous or feeling insignificant, a tiny cog in the big machine. Who knows. I do think comments on this post should stay relevant to the topic and in that vein: Happy (belated) 4th of July!
Anon1,
LOL, first off, I promise, no tickets.
Second, debating on this blog and other blogs is fine. It makes it more intersting unless it gets out of hand.
My point was simply that I try to not crticize the person whose blog it is a far as the content of what topics they post about. I figure if I don’t like the topic I can go elsewhere.
Kinda like shopping, if you don’t like what a store is selling you wouldn’t shop there.
Skye
Are you the law enforcment officer on this site??? If so please don’t issue me a ticke lol
I’m just stating the obvious, Abu Sinan asked about the ongoing situation in Palestine and I answered him that he won’t see anything about htat on here, because this is claimed to be a Jordanian centeric blog, regardless of the fact that it talks about elections in kuwait, 4th of july in the US, Syria, etc… oh no but not anything going on in Palestine for obvious reasons.
Anyway Skye, I stated my opinion as you did, if you don’t like my comment too bad
Anon1,
Shouldn’t Natasha have the right to write about whatever topic she wants? It’s her blog.
If you don’t like it go to another blog or start your own.
Happy belated 4th Natasha.
Abu Sinan
You won’t get any comments about anything that is happening in Palestine on this blog LOL Good try though
I think it’s wonderful that someone actually CELEBRATED July 4th. I just went to the Duke Gardens and chilled with the dog and the bf. Durham is awfully quiet on Independence Day. Pshhhh.
Any comments on what is happening in Palestine at the moment?
The pictures look wonderful, wish the Palestinians and Iraqis can have their independance from occupation
Oh yeah. He is my favorite Seinfeld character
Happy Fourth to you too Natasha! Jason Alexander ha? I just loved him in Seinfeld! Dont tell me you are a fan too?
